In yesterdays NYT's there is a great chart in the article Health Care as if Costs Didn’t Matter One of the big hobgoblins of social spending is the the overwhelming burden of the costs programs like medicare and medicaid weigh on the budget. But what is missed is that the burden--even if you zero'ed out all medicare/medicaid spending would still be felt by people because the real threat is the rising cost of health care. This chart from the CBO does a great job of showing that.
